The family theme park near Leipzig continues to build its future and will set another milestone in 2027 with a new themed area.
Leipzig, June 29, 2026.
Today, Saxony's Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection, Dirk Panter, together with the comic heroes Asterix and Obelix, BELANTIS Managing Director Filip De Witte and Park Director Martin Endruhn, officially launched construction work on a new themed area at the family theme park near Leipzig with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony. The opening is scheduled for 2027.
The centrepiece of the new themed area will be a family roller coaster manufactured by the German company Gerstlauer. The attraction will further strengthen the park's offering for families while marking the next visible step in the long-term development of the family theme park. The new themed area will be built on the site currently known as the "Beach of the Gods", which will undergo a comprehensive redesign and thematic transformation.
"With every new attraction, our vision for BELANTIS becomes a little more tangible. The new themed area sends an important signal for the future of the destination and underlines our ambition to continue offering families new adventures and high-quality experiences in the years to come," says Filip De Witte, Managing Director of BELANTIS.
Economic Affairs Minister Dirk Panter commented: "The Leipzig New Lake District is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, while the city of Leipzig and its surrounding area continue to grow. It is impressive to see what has been created here in recent years in the heart of a former open-cast mining region. BELANTIS and its upcoming transformation symbolise the modernity and change of this region. We welcome and appreciate this commitment."
The acquisition of BELANTIS by Compagnie des Alpes in 2025 marked the beginning of a long-term transformation process for the theme park near Leipzig. In May 2026, 'Idéfix's Adventure Land' became the first new themed area to open as part of the park's long-term development strategy. With today's groundbreaking ceremony for the 2027 themed area, another milestone is being reached just two months later, demonstrating Compagnie des Alpes' consistent pace of investment and growth at BELANTIS.
In the long term, Compagnie des Alpes, together with licensor Les Éditions Albert René, aims to transform BELANTIS into the first Asterix Park outside France. By 2030/31, the park is expected to gradually evolve into the world of Asterix & Obelix and further establish itself as Germany's leading family-oriented leisure destination.
